The FD Insurance management team has a formidable depth of experience in the field of medical professional liability insurance. Each team member brings their own expertise to the mix, along with a thorough knowledge of the region’s medical climate and marketplace. These professionals are dedicated to the mission of building long-term relationships with each doctor we insure, and they work to accomplish that goal every day.
Mr. Russell has nearly four decades of experience in the insurance industry, having held positions in all levels of management with both private and publicly-traded companies, including Daniels Head and Associates, Co-ordinated Management Systems and FPIC Insurance Group. His areas of specialization include professional liability, individual and group insurance, reinsurance, and third-party administration. Mr. Russell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from New Hampshire College.
Mr. Shealy joined the organization in November 2005 as Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Shealy will leverage his 22 years of finance and insurance experience to lead FD Insurance in developing and expanding business operations and ensuring operational excellence for the Company. Mr. Shealy has worked in various areas of the insurance industry since 1993, most recently as the Chief Financial Officer and IT Manager of the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office, as well as a Financial Administrator / Examiner for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. Mr. Shealy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Florida State University and has held the CPA designation since 1993.
Prior to joining FD Insurance in 2007, Ms. Sorenson was an associate attorney at Wicker, Smith, O’Hara, McCoy & Ford, P.A. where she specialized in general liability and medical malpractice defense. Ms. Sorenson received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Yale University. She graduated from the University of Miami School of Law with honors. Ms. Sorenson is a licensed risk manager in the state of Florida and a licensed attorney in both Florida and the District of Columbia.
Mr. Taman joined the organization in December 2009 as Controller. Mr. Taman has over 20 years of experience in the financial and insurance industries and was CFO of PPIC, a FD Insurance acquisition in 2009. His in depth knowledge of the financial system and regulatory environment is an asset to the Company.
Mr. Campbell has over 16 years of IT Experience. Prior to joining FD Insurance, he was employed by Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. where he held various positions, including Manager of Information Technology. Mr. Campbell is also a nine year veteran of the United States Navy.
Ms. Veth has worked in insurance company and insurance agency environments for 28 years, specializing in medical professional liability. She has held underwriting management and account executive positions with Harden & Associates, Marsh Advantage America and Florida Physicians Insurance Company. Ms. Veth is a licensed general lines insurance agent in the state of Florida.
Mr. Dupre has 36 years of successful experience in casualty litigation management and is regarded throughout Florida as an expert in medical professional liability insurance. Mr. Dupre’s experience includes work as a claims manager, claims supervisor and special representative at First Professionals Insurance Company and Johns Eastern Company, Inc. Mr. Dupre holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American International College and an MBA from the University of North Florida.
Ms. Kelley is a 30-year healthcare veteran in the areas of pre-hospital emergency medicine, medical education, claims, risk management and health administration. She served as the administrator for Drs. Janovitz, Parrillo, Delgado and Newbold’s Family Medical Center in Orlando. She spent an additional 10 years as administrator in the specialties of Anesthesiology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Ms. Kelley holds a Master of Health Administration degree from the Medical College of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Virginia. She was awarded the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) by the Insurance Institute of America and was a Certified Medical Practice Executive.
Mr. Wilson has focused on malpractice protection since 2003. He joined FD In 2012 and manages all FD agency business relationships. He leads FD’s strategic marketing initiatives, team building and partnerships which continuously increase key partnerships and provide additional benefits to policyholders. He earned his Business Degree from Columbia College.
Mr. Carey joined the Company in June 2008. He most recently served as the Senior Supervisor for the Claims department, where he has been instrumental in ensuring the success of the claims department through proactive claims management, as well as maintaining relationships with our insureds, defense attorneys and agents.
Mr. Pingel has been with FD Insurance since 2010 and in the medical malpractice insurance industry since 2004 with experience on both the agent and insurance company side. He holds the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) and Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) designations and the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
Mrs. Kagan serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Secretary of the Company. In addition to being a Registered Nurse, Mrs. Kagan has been an attorney for 31 years, practicing in the areas of personal injury, worker’s compensation, representation of professional athletes, real estate and health care law. She has been involved in numerous medical malpractice cases and, with her medical background, is extremely knowledgeable of all aspects of these types of cases.
Mrs. Kagan is a Licensed Healthcare Risk Manager, the spouse of an orthopedic surgeon and has been active in organized medicine. She is a Past President of the Florida Medical Association Alliance and a Past President of the American Medical Association Alliance. In addition to her law practice, she has started and managed many successful business ventures across many industries. Mrs. Kagan holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida and Doctor of Jurisprudence from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University.
Mr. Knox, a certified public accountant, serves as a Director and the Treasurer of the Company. Mr. Knox has been the Managing Partner of McHale, Caruso Scullion & Knox, a CPA Firm, since 2007. Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Knox served as Chief Financial Officer for a large private medical practice. Mr. Knox began his career as a CPA with the international accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand. Mr. Knox has also served, since June 1987, on the Board of Directors of Bozzuto’s, Inc., a wholesale grocery company headquartered in Connecticut. Mr. Knox is also the Past President and a Board Member of the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Knox holds Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Stetson University.
Dr. Isaacson serves as a Director of the Company. Dr. Isaacson has practiced pain management medicine in Fort Myers for over ten years. He received his medical degree in 1990 from Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Isaacson is a former Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at Oregon Health Sciences University, where he was appointed Director of the Pain Management Fellowship Program. Dr. Isaacson has also served as a consultant to the Oregon Board of Medicine.
Dr. Isaacson is board certified in both Anesthesiology and Acute, Chronic, and Cancer Pain Management by the American Board of Anesthesiology; and currently has hospital staff privileges at Southwest Regional Hospital in Fort Myers as well as North Collier Hospital and Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Florida. Dr. Isaacson also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from SUNY at Binghamton.
Dr. Foradada serves as a Director of the Company. Dr. Foradada has practiced pediatric neurology and neurology in Tampa, Florida, for over 18 years. He received his medical degrees from Central Eastern University in the Dominican Republic. He did his formal training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Foradada currently is in private practice in Tampa, Florida, and has an Assistant Professor position at the University of South Florida Medical School.
He is board certified in American Society of Neurorehabilitation as well as the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. He has been a Medical Director of Pediatric Medical and Surgical Subspecialties, IPA, as well as medical director of Citrus Healthcare (2009-2011). He currently is an attending staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital of Tampa, as well as St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital of Tampa, and St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital. Dr. Foradada is also President of the 4710 Medical Arts Building Association of Tampa, Florida.
